My friend has terrible spring allergies that turn into asthma. And so do I. At lunch a couple weeks ago, she told us that her pulmonologist suggested she take vitamins C, D, and B12 during the spring allergy season. Another friend eating lunch with us is a dietician, and said, "Well, you'd just pee out any extra C and B, and you probably wouldn't take enough D to hurt you.
When I got home, I did some Googling and discovered that the Mayo Clinic has done a ground breaking meta analysis of vitamin D research and found a link between lack of vitamin D not just to skeletal disorders but possibly also to wheezing and other allergy problems. Here's the link. I admit I didn't read the entire study.
I was impressed enough that the next time I visited Costco, I looked for D vitamins and found these charming little jellied candies. (I would only be happier if they were gummy bear shape.)
I started taking 2 a day, the recommended dosage and my allergies did get better. To happen this quickly, I believe this has to be the placebo effect, but I don't care.
Costco price is $ 11.99 for 275 Nature Made gummies. Flavors are strawberry, orange and lemon.
